Park Ridge Shoes and Shoe Repair

Former employee buys Park Ridge shoe store.

Ever Urbina learned everything he knows about fixing shoes from working at Park Ridge Shoes and Shoe Repair.

Now, the 10-year veteran employee is taking control of the business where he first worked after moving to Sioux Falls from Honduras.

In spite of confusion raised by "going-out-of-business" sale signs, Park Ridge Shoes and Shoe Repair is not going out of business. Urbina said Monday he decided to buy the Park Ridge Galleria's longest-lasting retailer because he enjoys the work and because he sensed concern from the community.

"We do have a lot of loyal customers," Urbina said.

Park Ridge Shoes and Shoe Repair was one of the original tenants of the Park Ridge mall when it opened in 1955.

Urbina's plan is simple: Keep everything the same.

He does hope to bring in some different brands to appeal to a younger audience, but he knows firsthand the value the business adds to the Sioux Falls community. It's equipment-filled basement shop repairs equipment for local fire departments and Sanford Health, in addition to individual customers.
